Big ups to newsweek for this article..
As a director of psychiatrics at New York's Bellevue Hospital Center, Joel Gold has seen thousands of delusional patients. But a few years ago, he began noticing a different sort of paranoia: young white men who believed they were the subjects of their own reality-TV shows. Some, says Gold, who with his brother has written a preliminary paper and hopes to author a larger study, seemed pleased by their roles—excited by the anticipated million-dollar payout. Others were tormented. One came to New York to check whether the World Trade Center had actually fallen—believing 9/11 to be an elaborate plot twist in his personal storyline. Another came to climb the Statue of Liberty, believing that he'd be reunited with his high-school girlfriend at the top, and finally be released from the "show."

Local hip-hop group breaks routine of life with music

Get Fresh Entertainment, a local hip-hop group, gave an intense and exciting performance Sept. 5 at San Marco’s Endo Exo.
The group consists of rappers William Heard (a.k.a. Just Will), Reggie Magpusao (a.k.a. Tha Antagonist), Alfredo Ladiana (a.k.a. JStahr), Phillip Beaver (a.k.a. Phil Banks) and producer/beats creator Jason Stokes (a.k.a. J), who is also the owner of John Dough Produqcions.
Heard leads Get Fresh Entertainment, which features members who have been performing in Jacksonville’s local hip-hop scene collectively for seven years.
“Our message is just to be, just really do music, do music as life,” Magpusao said. “We want to break genres. We want to make music where it’s not routine like our lives mostly are.”
John Dough Produqcions has not only worked with the Get Fresh group but has also worked and produced beats with many major artists in the area such as Flo Rida, T-Pain, Rich Boy, Ying Yang Twins and Swordz, who is backed by a full metal band.
Get Fresh Entertainment’s recent performance was done to get the word out about its new single release, Freshtro, which will be performed at its single release party. The party is scheduled to be held Sept. 13 at Aqua, which is located near Beach Boulevard and St. Johns Bluff Road.
Heard was excited about the turnout at Endo Exo, “considering the weather,” he said. He also plans on a much bigger turnout at Aqua since it’s a larger venue than Endo Exo.
Heard has received two consecutive Hip-Hop Hell local freestyle awards and was featured in The Florida Times-Union. His past lyrics convey a sense of consciousness where he speaks about responsibility to his community, family and friends, which most Southern rappers are not recognized for as much as their Northern counterparts.
After receiving his last Hip-Hop Hell freestyle award in 2006, Heard told Christy Whitehead of the Florida-Times Union he would be getting out of the rap game and either heading to Los Angeles or
New York.
At this point, he could never really get out of the music scene since it’s a major part of his being, but he still plans on moving to Los Angeles next year to further pursue his passion of music, he said.
“My ultimate goal is to obviously be successful [and] creative,” Heard said. “Make music that transcends time. Genuine music. The message we’re trying to get out is to be fresh in everything you do. Have a fresh outlook in life; don’t be stale. We want people to dance and holla.”

Obama '08
So this coming election, I will be voting for BO (Barrack Obama). I have to admit, I was very skeptical when Sen. Obama was making his run for the White house, and for history to become the very first African-American President of the United States. Then, I was a Hilary supporter, because I was hoping for the next 4 years to be just exactly like how it was when President Bill Clinton was in office. Now, since the DNC (Democratic National Convention) I was impressed by Sen. Obama's speach, because it touched on the issues that I personally wanted to hear as working middle-class American.
During these past 8 years with President Bush's administration, there has been rising crime, poverty and unemployment, all which have been recorded to be an all-time high. With that said, nothing much has been done for working middle-class Americans these past 8 years, we've been taxed, and the richer have been receiving tax cuts. It's our right to stand up as Americans to end this now. We can no longer stand in the dark, and watch this country be torn apart from the inside, just because we're afraid to take a stand and do what's right. We have a depleting educational system, our teachers are not being paid the salaries they deserve to educate our children. Our health care system is not in good shape either, and something has to be done about it NOW.
If you're old enough, please go out there and vote. Make a decision and I hope that your decision is based on the information you've obtained alone. It's time for a change, and if you need to register it's not too late, go to VoteForChange.com and register to vote. You can also register to vote at RockTheVote.com and there is several different websites to register at. Make sure your voice is heard, and make a decision for our future.
